the gospel according to george

keep me where the Light is...

my sassy friend rachel reminded me of this song this afternoon.

we were talking via our new facebook addiction and she reminded me of how much she loves that song and what it says. we talked about how hard it is to CHOOSE to stay where the Light is when all we want to do sometimes is crawl into the dark and hide...hide from people, hide from problems or fears...how paralyzing the dark can be...it robs you of joy and causes you to sit so paranoid in fear of the unknown...it causes you to sit quietly and listen to the lies in your head, the lies that the enemy plants there, knowing our insecurities and how closely we will cling to those instead of truth sometimes...in the dark, you cannot see, you have to trust what you know is around you and what you have been taught or what you believe on the inside...you have to trust the invisible because visibility is not an option...

you wanna know who is brilliant? curious freakin' george. he is a damn bright monkey. he is liam's favorite show-thing to watch. and i love that he learns about math and science and logic from this adorable little mischievous creature in the process..george even shed some Light for me a bit a couple weeks back...one of the episodes was about george being afraid of the dark and how all the shadows in his room would come alive at night and appear as scary animals but once the light was turned on, the man in the yellow hat showed george it was actually normal objects like a hat stand or a chair in the corner that cast shadows on the wall in the deep dark night when there was no light around...but just like that, with a flip of a switch, the shadows would be chased away with Light and the normal objects would remind george that there was nothing to be afraid of...it was his imagination that got the best of him and the shadows were false representations of what really was...

not a huge huge lesson for some, but for me..stuck in the latest deep dark trance of no Light that day that little monkey's ah-ha was echoed in my heart....man, God! why don't i remind myself of this more? the lies and the fear that envelopes me somedays, in some of the darkest days since syd died, they were just shadows...without any Light to cast Truth on the "objects" in my heart, i believed that the corner chair and hat stand also looked like a giant monster in the dark too...i sit in the dark afraid most days of what could be, what might be, what happened and what was...forgetting the most simplest of switches can chase those shadows away in no time if i would just turn it on...if i would just remember that most things in the dead of night, in the deepest of dark look foreign and are not true to what they are in the daytime with light shining and dancing on them...i could remind myself that most times, when i feel in the dark myself...that fear does not come from love.

but Perfect Love casts out all fear....

i need a Holy Spirit nightlight...

Being in the dark as you have been and as I have been with my family, I lean heavily on Daniel 2:22b "...he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him." and Psalm 36:9 "For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light." Sweet, sweet child, I am always praying for you.

Thank you Rachel, Thank you Curious George, but most of all I Thank you Lord for revealing yourself to my friend in the most amazing of ways. You know how to do it. Keep my friend out of the dark. Keep my friend from running for the dark where it may to her seem safe. Love you Lyss...I know you didn't know that. Ha!
